Action pic stars Jean-Claude Van Damme
Newly minted Exchange Peaks Film Capital has come on board to finance Jean-Claude Van Damme’s actioner “Swelter.”
Lennie James, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Josh Henderson are also starring in “Swelter,” with Keith Parmer directing. The Exchange is representing worldwide rights at the European Film Market in Berlin.
Eleonore Dailly (“Chicas”) is producing. Lensing begins at the end of the month in the story of a gang that steals more than $100 million from the Luxor Casino in Las Vegas. All but one of the five gang members are captured and jailed; 10 years later, after blasting their way out of a maximum security prison, the quartet go on the trail of their former accomplice and the remaining $10 million in stolen cash.
Variety reported on Jan. 31 that sales banner Tthe Exchange had partnered with Denver-based Grand Peaks Entertainment to create the Exchange Peaks fund with plans to finance and produce four to six movies annually. First project to benefit from the fund is the Exchange’s marriage drama “The Last 5 Years,” directed by Richard LaGravenese (“Beautiful Creatures”), with Anna Kendrick starring.
Exchange Peaks is run by Exchange prexy Laura Ivey, who noted that the “Swelter” financing is an example of the fund’s ability to quickly and efficiently launch projects into production.
