Amazon Studios and Open Road have released the first trailer for the emotional and captivating documentary “Gleason.”
Directed by Clay Tweel, the powerful and inspiring story follows New Orleans NFL hero Steve Gleason after being diagnosed with ALS at the age of 34. At that time, he was given a life expectancy of two to five years and weeks after his diagnosis, found out that he was expecting his first child with his wife Michel. Hoping to leave a legacy for his son and make the world a better place for all people with neurological disorders, he started filming himself and leaving messages for his unborn baby.
“My intention is to pass on as much of who I am as I possibly can to you,” the athlete says in the trailer.
The critically acclaimed feature has roughly four years of footage, including personal and surprisingly humorous video journals shot by Gleason, and clips of his globe-trotting adventures that he took to live life to the fullest.
“Gleason” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to a standing ovation, garnered an audience award at the SXSW Film Festival and a special jury prize at the Full Frame Film Festival. The documentary also recently won the Special Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival.
“Gleason” open in select theaters in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and New Orleans on July 29.
