After receiving strong reviews at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, audiences now get to see what the big deal was with the first trailer for the A24 pic “The Spectacular Now.”
The coming-of-age drama stars Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley and was directed by James Ponsoldt.
Story follows hard-partying high school senior whose philosophy on life changes when he meets the not-so-typical “nice girl.” The trailer gives off the same feeling as a John Hughes 1980s pic or Cameron Crowe project and looks to be good counter programing to the usual summer tentpole fare.
Woodley has seen her star rise already and will continue to see that rise with upcoming starring roles in Summit’s “Divergent” and Sony’s “The Amazing Spiderman 2.” Teller has slowly started to get his name out there but a role like this could really get execs talking about where they would like to see his career go next.
“The Spectacular Now” opens this August.
