Jean-Claude Van Damme is already on board this remake of his 1989 action classic
Gina Carano has joined the cast of Kickboxer, Radar Pictures’ remake of the 1989 martial artist actioner.
John Stockwell is directing the movie, which is shooting in New Orleans.
Carano will make up part of the muscle-glistening roll call that includes Guardians of the Galaxy star and newly minted James Bond villain Dave Bautista, X-Men: Days of Future Past stunt performer-turned-actor Alain Moussi, UFC welterweight championGeorges St. Pierre (who played Batroc in Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Jean-Claude Van Damme, who is returning to the franchise that helped launch his career
Model-turned-actress Sara Malakul Lane plays the love interest.
Kickboxer follows Kurt Sloane (Moussi), a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand, where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po (Bautista). Carano will play a fight promoter.
The film is produced by Ted Field of Radar Films, Dimitri Logothetis andNick Celozzi. Mike Weber and Peter Meyer will executive produce along with Brian O’Shea, Nat McCormick and Jeff Bowler from The Exchange.
The Exchange is selling the movie worldwide.
Carano, repped by Gersh, The Syndicate and Ziffren Brittenham, worked with Stockwell on her 2013 action vehicle In the Blood. She just wrapped Bus 657 opposite Robert De Niroand Jeffrey Dean Morgan and she last appeared on the big screen in 2013’s Fast & Furious 6.
