Image Entertainment has nabbed North American rights to the “The Houses October Built” and will release the thriller simultaneously in theaters and on video-on-demand.

The film centers on five friends who set off on a road trip to visit haunted house attractions, only to come face to face with something more blood-curdling than fake thrills. It premieres in October  in 10 markets, including New York and Los Angeles.

“The Houses October Built” was produced by Steven Schneider (“Insidious,” “Paranormal Activity”) and Zack Andrews, who also acts in the picture. Newcomer Bobby Roe directs and performs in the picture. The film stars Brandy Schaefer, Mikey Roe and Jeff Larson.

The deal was negotiated by Image Entertainment’s senior VP of Acquisitions Mark Ward. WME Global and Preferred Content brokered the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.

Image Entertainment recently released “Devil’s Knot” with Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth and “Wolf Creek 2.”
